Stretching time and possibility

(This article was originally posted on The Voice Nook on Substack.)

It’s snowing a lot here today. It started around 6:00am and is anticipated to keep coming down until around 6:00pm. It’s our first real snow of the season. When all is said and done, we should see about 7 inches.

Earlier today, a client asked me, “Do you like the snow?”

“I like it today, because it’s the first one. Very cozy. Very pretty. But ask me again in April”.”

Winters can be long here.

Anyway, here in the U.S., Thanksgiving is officially behind us and we’ve now entered that liminal 3-week space before the winter holidays.

Winter, as a function of nature, calls us to slow down and rest.

And I, for one, am looking forward to taking some time off between Christmas and New Year.

But not yet.

2025 is the year of Possible, and there are still 29 days left. That’s more than 8% of the year!

On the surface, maybe that doesn’t seem like much, but have you ever seen how far you can stretch your phone battery—or your gas tank—when you only have 8% left?

Maybe those aren’t good metaphors. I don’t know. Whatever…

What I DO know is that there are still 4 1/2 weeks remaining in 2025, and that’s plenty of time to experiment and explore what else could be Possible.

Another thing I know is that life is always going to keep lifing.

Maybe there is a snowstorm, or something crazy happens in the political realm, or the price of eggs triples, or suddenly it’s December when 5 minutes ago it was August.

Life. Keeps. Going.

All the time.

In the summer, at Christmas, when we’re busy, when we’re bored, when we’re happy, when we’re stressed.

Life keeps going. Always. No matter what.

Interestingly, though, time itself is not absolute. Time is stretchy.

In physics (don’t worry, this is not turning into a post about physics), the theory of relativity tells us that time and space aren’t fixed. It also states that the rate at which time passes depends on your relative motion.

In human terms, this is basically why that one boring-ass meeting draaaaaggeed oooooooon foooooreeeeeevvvveeeeeeer, and yet somehow August feels like 5 minutes ago.

👉 If time isn’t fixed, then neither is what’s possible to accomplish inside of it.

This means, that our capacity to start, change, or complete something isn’t dictated by the days in the calendar — it’s shaped by how we move through each moment we’re in.

And this, my friend, is how we squeeze the juice out of the last 8% of the year:

we approach it with intention.

What if—just hear me out—we can actually choose how we show up each day for the remaining 8% of the year?

I know there are endless tasks and to-dos around the holidays. But whether we realize it or not, just like with time, many of those tasks aren’t fixed either.

What assumptions would you like to challenge about what you “have” to do, or are “supposed” to do, or “should” do during these remaining weeks of 2025?

When you look back on this year, what intention did you set out at the beginning? How close did you get to living it fully?

How might you use this remaining 8% to recommit to this intention and end the year—your year—feeling realigned with yourself and who you want to be?

If you’ve been thinking about getting support and putting it off, the next three weeks are a beautiful window to begin.

[Pro tip] If you think you don’t have time, consider this:

One hour of coaching can help you reframe what’s on your to-do list and why. That shift alone usually leaves people feeling reenergized—and helps them reclaim a pleasantly surprising amount of time to spend on more aligned intentions and tasks.

Not only will this help your 8% stretch much further, it just might also help you come back in the new year feeling more spacious and refreshed.

We can start now, pause over the holiday break, then pick back up in January. Easy peasy.

If this feels interesting to you, you can book a call here.

❤️ One last note:

In the spirit of community care and the notion that everyone deserves access to Possibility, 5% of all December revenue will go to two community organizations that are very close to my heart: WeHope in East Palo Alto, CA and Stewart’s Shops Holiday Match here in Upstate New York.

❤️❤️ Oops, one more last note:

If your employer offers an annual learning and development stipend or reimbursement, don’t forget to get it before the year ends. Even if you can’t start the work until January, you could still use your 2025 stipend. Book a call if you want to talk through how that could work.

Can’t wait see what’s Possible with this last 8%!

We got this.
