What if the biggest influences on how we show up are the ones we've never learned to see?
(This article was originally posted on The Voice Nook on Substack.)
Somewhere deep down, many of us know we’re capable of more.
Not just in terms of productivity, though we look for it here.
And not just in terms of being more successful…though we look for it here, too.
It’s just like…we can feel it…there’s this thing just outside of our awareness that’s shaping how we move through the world.
We don’t know what it is. We just know that we keep bumping into it.
Even though we can’t see it, we’re clever enough to develop ways to work around it. We will ourselves to become a new version of ourselves through another book, another framework, another mindset shift, another promise to ourselves that “this time will be different”.
And we DO feel like a new and different version of ourselves – for, like, a minute.
But inevitably, a challenge appears, and these workarounds break apart, and we find ourselves back with our old selves again.
What if the resolution wasn’t to find a way to work around the thing we can’t see, but rather to find a way to finally see it?
Sounds scary, I know.
But stay with me for a minute…I’ve got you.
What if the problem isn’t that we keep getting in our own way?
What if it’s that we’ve been conditioned to assume that we ourselves are the *only* obstacle? When, in truth, there is always way more influencing our behavior than we ever realize.
That’s not to say we aren’t often part of the obstacle, but that’s only one layer of the story. Some influences live inside of us. Some exist in our relationships. And others are woven throughout the environments, cultures, and systems we move through each day.
When we can finally see these influences – when we make the invisible visible – we have more choice, more intention, and more self-trust in how we show up.
We don’t need to be new and better versions of ourselves. We need to remove the chatter in and around us that keeps us from showing up as who we already are.
I can literally feel my heart expand and my spine get taller just thinking about this.
If you’ve ever seen one of my ‘I love my job and all my clients 😭’ posts…this is the work I’m talking about.
Today, I’m excited to share that in August, I’ll be hosting a small, one-day workshop called Making Sense of How We Show Up.
I’m intentionally limiting it to 8 people so each person has the space to engage deeply with their version of the work.
You can view and download a .pdf version of the full invitation here.
If you would like to join us, please register here.
If you have additional questions, or would like to discuss payment plans or scholarships, please email me directly or book a call.
Whether or not you join us for this workshop, I hope this post has sparked some inquiry for you. If you’ve ever heard yourself asking, “Is it just me?” or “Is there something wrong with me?”…I hope this post helps you entertain the possibility that the answer to both of these questions is no. ❤️
